About the course
This course builds on and enhances library skills by introducing you to the principles and practice of cataloguing and classification. It is designed to enable you to apply international standards in the creation of catalogue records. You will also be able to analyse the international standards and to develop a critical understanding of the contemporary issues affecting cataloguing and catalogue management.

You must have access to recent editions of: Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, 2nd ed, 1988 revision or later; Dewey Decimal Classification, 21st ed. or later; Library of Congress Subject Headings, 20th ed. or later. Contact the course leader if you have difficulties getting access to any of these.
You must also have access to the Internet. This will provide information on recent changes to all three of the above resources as well as giving access to concise versions of all MARC formats.
