About the course

This course is a distance learning package for year two of the level 4 certificate.

What's in the course

The following unit standards are fully assessed by the Open Polytechnic

  • 2431 Draw and interpret engineering drawings under supervision
  • 16955 Calculate sizes, mass, volumes, and quantities for engineering fabrication

The course also gives you an introduction that will help you gain the following Engineering Heavy Fabrication unit standards;

  • 2418 Lay out and mark off irregular fabrication shapes under supervision
  • 2419 Form and shape, sheet, plate, pipe and structural sections using power machines under supervision
  • 2671 Weld structural steelwork with the manual arc welding process in downhand positions
  • 2673 Weld steel structures with the gas metal arc welding process in downhand positions
  • 2683 Cut metals using mechanical thermal processes
  • 18106 Gouge metals using manual thermal processes.
