Biography

Alan Muxlow

Alan Muxlow is a Fellow of the NZ Institute of Quantity Surveyors with extensive quantity surveying consultancy experience and over 30 years involvement in education.

Personal Statement

As a quantity surveyor I see the construction industry as a vibrant, ever-changing, ever-challenging environment producing one-off buildings. The quantity surveyor is in the middle of this revolution and must like working with people, be methodical and analytical in work habits and enjoy the constant challenge of dealing with the variety of events that make up a construction project. A quantity surveyor must also have a sound knowledge of construction and services, an affinity for figures and enjoy working in administration processes.

Open Polytechnic offers a unique, fully documented, tutor supported, distance education course complemented by additional resources to provide an excellent information and learning base.

Students must recognise the need for self motivation to study by distance education and have an incentive to learn. To students with such an attitude Open Polytechnic offers a partnership to gain competency in construction related roles. With this motivation, I believe students would have the confidence to carry out the activities of a quantity surveyor or construction manager.
