Choose your study pattern
Students can study
- self-selected units to achieve competence
- towards a qualification
The following study pattern charts give suggestions to complete the qualification with part-time study.
National Diploma in Architectural Technology (ND5351)
National Diploma in Construction Management(ND5352)
National Diploma in Quantity Surveying (ND5353)
Being employed and studying part-time you are advised to study one unit standard at a time because you can enrol several times in a year.
Start any time of the year with a 12 months study period, try and finish in a shorter time, and then enrol in another unit. So aim to complete one unit after the other and not over-commit yourself at any stage.
One credit equates to approximately 10 hours of study time, so 10 credit course equates to 100 hours study.
Each qualification consists of core unit standards covering construction, services, and technology, together with specialist unit standards. You are recommended to do core units before, or concurrent with, specialist units in the same panel of the chart.
Communication units can be done at any time. It is recommended that you begin with construction-related unit standards.
It will only be under exceptional circumstances and with agreement of the Academic Registrar and the Programme Coordinator that you can study full-time, for which the workload is 100 credits. That is 40 weeks at 25 hours a week or 1000 hours study time.
Consult the Construction Programme Coordinators if you need advice on your intended pattern of study.
