Changing your Enrolment
Information on changing your enrolment
At the Open Polytechnic we realise that sometimes things happen which require you to alter direction.
This may mean
- Extending your enrolment period
- Transferring a course
- Changing a course
- Withdrawing completely from your study.
To help you through these times we offer a number of services that allow you to change your enrolment.
Before you decide to change your enrolment, we strongly recommend you talk your options through with us. Wherever possible we want to help you succeed and reach your goals.
NB: Different criteria apply to school students studying under the STAR programme. Please refer to the Courses for Schools brochure or contact the STAR Coordinator on ph: 0508 227 000 for details.
Extending your enrolment period
If you are enrolled in an open enrolment course and you are unable to complete the requirements of the course in the 12 month enrolment period, you may apply for an extension of time of up to three months.
Note:
- Extensions to enrolment period are not available for fixed-term courses
- An extension to your enrolment period will not extend your Student Loan or Allowance entitlement
- Some National/New Zealand Certificate courses have specified enrolment periods and extensions cannot be granted. Refer to your Programme Guide for details.
To apply for an extension to your enrolment period you will need to complete and return an Application for Extension of Enrolment Period.
Application for Extension of Enrolment Period ( .pdf 74kb) Document will open in a new window.
Transferring a course
If you are enrolled in a trimester course and are unable to complete the requirements of your course during that trimester, you may request to transfer your enrolment to the next available offering of that course. You are only able to transfer a course once per enrolment.
Special conditions and a deadline for application apply. See your Programme Guide for conditions and key dates.
Note:
- If you transfer your course you are not entitled to a refund of fees if you then withdraw from the course
- Access to Online campus ceases when a transfer is actioned and is reactivated at the commencement of the new trimester
- If you have taken out a student loan, you should contact us before applying for a transfer. A trimester transfer affects your entitlement to a student loan.
To apply to transfer a course you will need to complete and return an Application to Transfer
Trimester Transfer Application Form ( .pdf 80kb) Document will open in a new window.

It is important to check your course material upon receipt to make sure they meet your study requirements.

If you wish to change your course, either contact us or email your request as soon as possible after receiving your course material.

The date of withdrawal is the date when your written or faxed Application to Withdraw is received by us. Alternately, you can forward a detailed email outlining your request to withdraw to Enrolment Services.
