The Asia Pacific Network which is an inter governmental network whose mission is to foster Global Change Research has been a major funding source for research conducted by the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand.

Since 2004 they have been funding a international collaborative research project on Assessment and Management of Change in Coastal Zones subject to Salinity Intrusion. The proponent and Project Leader Dr. Gregory De Costa is from Open Polytechnic.
