Over 24,000 students enrolled with us in 2009, studying from basic skills to degree level. They live throughout New Zealand and in over 40 countries overseas.

Most are individual students in employment studying for job or career reasons, but they also include people studying for general interest or personal development, or under contract arrangements through secondary schools, Industry Training Organisations, or public and private sector organisations.

In 2009:

• 24,601 individual students enrolled in Polytechnic courses
• 77% of students were aged 25 years or older
• 61% of students were women.

In terms of individual students, Open Polytechnic is also one of the biggest providers of tertiary education for Māori, with over 4,000 students last year.
