Academic Profile

The Open Polytechnic is government-owned and funded, delivering courses throughout New Zealand and internationally.

All courses meet rigorous and transparent quality standards. They are either accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority or approved by the Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics Quality (ITPQuality).

There is industry involvement in the development of most courses and programmes and close relationships are also maintained with appropriate professional and industry bodies.

Over 130 programmes and 1500 courses staircase from certificate to diploma and degree level (Levels 1-7 on the National Qualifications Framework).

They range from technical and vocational training to higher professional and continuing education.

Faculty

TeachingĀ is carried out by three specialist Schools integrated within a single Faculty.

This structure encourages interaction between disciplines, including shared responsibility for some programmes, while maintaining a coherent approach to our overall teaching programme.

Our 180 full-time academic staff are highly qualified and bring a wide range of industry experience to their roles.

All academic staff are encouraged to maintain personal industry links through a proactive development programme.

Our degree teaching is underpinned by an active research programme.

Over 300 Adjunct Faculty (mostly off-campus) with relevant expertise also contribute to the development and delivery of our programmes.
