Collaborative research with external providers

Researchers within Open Polytechnic collaborate with researchers from other polytechnics and universities both within New Zealand and overseas.

Major ongoing projects include the following:

  • An ongoing study of techniques used by pre-European Māori to grow and store kūmara and aruhe (bracken fern rhizome) led by Mike Burtenshaw and supported by a $56,000 2-year grant from Plant & Food Research Limited.
  • A study on the loss of land surface, and changes to water resources, as a result of sea level rise and climate changes is currently being conducted by Associate Professor Gregory De Costa in collaboration with colleagues from Japan, Indonesia, India and Sri Lanka. Supported by a $100,000 grant from the Asia Pacific Network, the research will be carried out over 2 years.  The following link provides more information on this research.
